Deciduous perennial. California native. AKA Epilobium septentrionalis. Foliage has a metallic silver sheen and creates tight mounds or mats. Large, tubular glowing scarlet flowers appear in summer and fall. Attracts hummingbirds. Deer resistant. Well-drained soil. This species difffers from most Zauschneria in that it performs better with moderate to regular water and some afternoon shade even when established. Hardy to 10°F or less.
