Deciduous shrub. Dense, multi-stemmed form with distinctively tiered horizontal branching. Matures over time in a broad-rounded form with a slightly larger spread. Flowers bloom in late April-May in flat-topped, lace-cap-like clusters which extend along the branches and above the foliage in double rows. Egg-shaped fruits, red maturing to black. Ovate, toothed, strongly-veined, dark green leaves turn burgundy red to purplish red in fall. Moderate water needs once established.
