Deciduous shrub. Prefers shade in hot climates, can tolerate full sun in cooler summer climates. Attractive blue-green leaves with creamy gold edges grow into a dense attractive bush. Large clusters of small, fragrant, white flowers bloom in spring. Blooms are followed by clusters of dark purple and black berry-like fruits. Attracts birds and beneficial pollinators. Deer resistant. Moderate to ample water needs once established; do not let dry out. Adapts to a variety of soil conditions, but requires good drainage.
