Evergreen shrub. Native to Catalina Island. Wine red stems are arching or half trailing; might root in moist soil. Roundish, leathery dark green leaves are fragrant after rain or when crushed. Light pink to purple flowers from midwinter into spring. Red berries. Needs part shade in hottest climates. Low to moderate water needs once established.
