Evergreen shrub. Slow growing with mounded form. Dark-green, oval-shaped and glossy leaves with prickly edges, turning purplish in winter. Small, bright-yellow flowers in early spring, followed by small edible blue berries. Deer resistant. A California native. Drought tolerant once established.
