Evergreen shrub. Leathery, dark green leaves are aromatic when bruised. Stems on new growth have a hint of red. This compact laurel developed by Monrovia was originally marketed as Mon Rik. It works well in smaller yards and containers and can be clipped to form a small tree. Leaves are just like the original and can be used for seasoning. Cream colored flowers bloom in spring but are inconspicuous. Low water needs in well-drained soil once established.
