Evergreen perennial. Bright green, ferny, textured foliage spreads by rhizomes, forming a groundcover. Unique looking, pinkish-red flowers appear above the foliage in spring. Puffy, smoke like seed heads follow in summer. Prefers some afternoon shade in hot summer. Deer resistant. Moderate water needs in well-drained soil once established. Hardy to 0°F and below.
