Deciduous tree. Small, upright habit. Foliage is an attractive green. Branches have sharp thorns. Dense clusters of white flowers in spring. Edible fruit matures to black in late summer. Usually insignificant fall color but can sometimes turn red, orange, and yellow. Attracts birds and butterflies. Moderate to regular water needs in well-drained soil once established.
