Evergreen clumping bamboo. The billowy mass of maroon stems, erect at first but then bowed over, sometimes nearly to the ground, by masses of dark green leaves as they develop. Cream to light pink bracts on the new shoots. It can easily be grown in sun or shade near the coast but needs some shading and sheltering from hot, dry winds inland. Hardy to 15-20 degrees F. Moderate to regular water needs once established.
