Evergreen conifer. Slow growing. Native to a very small area of the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina and Tennessee extending into the southwestern corners of Virginia and West Virginia. One of the most popular Christmas trees sold in commerce today. Narrow, pyramidal habit with a spire-like crown. Flattened, shiny, dark green needles are white-banded beneath. Seed cones are purple with conspicuously protruding bracts. Better grown in cooler climates. Prefers consistently moist, slightly acidic, and well-draining soil.
