Evergreen conifer. Fast growth. Gawky when young, but soon develops into a slender, graceful pyramid. Bark is fissured, reddish-brown. Needles are bluish-green when new, aging to a dark green, and held in groups of three. Glossy brown cones can reach 9-12 inches long. Resists oat root fungus. Low water needs once established.
