Deciduous perennial. Wide medium green leaves grow from the base into tight mounds. Foliage turns reddish-maroon in fall. Spectacular blooms of bright purple flowers blossom from spring until fall, with heaviest flowering in midsummer. Dried flowers last for ages, retaining their color long after drying. Deer resistant. Drought tolerant once established, but requires good drainage. Hardy to 25°-30°F.
