Deciduous shrub. A lovely summer-flowering variety for the shrub or mixed border. In general appearance, it resembles the common Hortensia or “mop-head” Hydrangeas, but the rich pink flowers, which mature to a deep crimson shade, are clustered in smaller (3-4in) and therefore more graceful heads. It’s also hardier than its buxom counterparts, surviving -10°F with little or no damage. Bloom is profuse in July and August on bushy 3-ft plants that prosper in full sun and slightly acid garden soil. Regular water needs in well-drained soil once established.
